Abstract Cybervetting is the widespread practice of employers culling information from social media and/or other internet sources to screen and select job candidates. Research evaluating online screening still in its infancy; that which exists often assumes it offers value utility as long they can avoid discrimination claims. Given increasing prevalence cybervetting, extremely important probe challenges limitations. We seek initiate a discussion about negative consequences how be overcome. draw on previous literature our own data assess implications cybervetting for three key stakeholders: candidates, hiring agents, organizations. also discuss future actions these stakeholders take manage ameliorate harmful outcomes cybervetting. argue responsibility organizations engaged identify specific goals, develop formal policies practices, continuously evaluate so societal are minimized. Should fail do so, professional industry associations well government should hold them accountable.
